It’s been a quick 3 years but there was definitely some anticipation for Mr. Zombie’s next release after 2013’s “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor” jumpstarted some life into his catalog. 2006’s “Educated Horses” and 2010’s “Hellbilly Deluxe 2” were good, but not great. Some classics in those 2 and hidden gems, but overall they just weren’t all that exciting. Then 2013 came along and his put out his best effort since 2001’s “Sinister Urge”.

Rob had stated not longer that release that they were already working on new material, which never happens. He himself was clearly excited. So now here we are in 2016 with the release of “The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser”, by far one of the most ridiculously long unnecessary album titles ever. How does it hold up?

Well honestly, despite the 3 year space, it feels like a companion piece to the last album. Not necessarily a sequel and certainly not B-sides – It Just follows in the same vein and flows in a similar way and style. So, that means it’s a good thing. However I will say that it’s not quite as great as “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor”, but it’s just maybe only half a step down from being as good.

The songs are short and to the point. Sometimes you may want just a a little more out of them, but it’s very take it or leave it. It’s not like Rob Zombie has ever been known for being progressive or anything in the first place, but it wouldn’t hurt to explore a little more and get a little bit more dynamic. Just my take on it. There’s an intro and 2 interludes on here. I enjoy all 3 and it’s about as dynamic as it gets, but they are just space filler.

The end track “Wurdalak” is one of the longer songs in his solo output (5:31) and it has a nice piano outro. The song itself is on the slow and doomy side. A heavier Black Sabbath kinda thing going on. “Well, Everybody’s Fucking in a U.F.O.” is still probably the worst single he’s released in his entire career. In the context of the album it does fit better, but as a hit single and live staple? After the tour support for this album, I would hope it doesn’t stay in the setlist.

“Satanic Cyanide! The Killer Rocks On!”, “The Hideous Exhibitions of a Dedicated Gore Whore”, “In the Age of the Consecrated Vampire We All Get High”, and “The Life and Times of a Teenage Rock God” are the album’s biggest highlights for me.

This album and the last one are proof that Rob still has it in him to be one of the last few “Rock Stars” and do it well. Who knows how much is left in his music tank before he fully goes into movies (you know it’s bound to happen) but I imagine there’s at least a couple more in there and I very much look forward to it. Rob Zombie started my love for Metal in March 2000 while playing Twisted Metal 3 and 4 and for that there will always be a special place in there, even if I have a preference to his brother Spider (Powerman 5000).

Top 10 of 2016? I certainly think so!
