Feeling nostalgic for albums like Orgy’s ‘Vapor Transmission’? or Rob Zombie’s ‘Hellbilly Deluxe’? Or maybe even Korn’s ‘Untouchables’? Well look no further when you listen to Motionless In White’s new album ‘Graveyard Shift’, because it has all of that and then some.

In basic terms, the album has the metalcore heaviness with emotional lyricism, feel, and melody, with that touch of industrial added. But in a more in depth view, this is how it goes:

It starts off with the song “Rats” that gives off that ‘Orgy’ sound. Listen to it, and you’ll get what exactly what I’m talking about. It still has that heavy/metalcore tone to it.

“Queen For Queen” instantly has the aggressive yet melodic tone. Metalcore fans will love this song.

“Necessary Evil” is more dancy/industrial and also features guest vocalist Jonathan Davis (KoRn.) He also turned some old fashioned lyrics into his own, stating “It’s my party and I’ll DIE when I want to.”

“Soft” has to be one of the heavier songs on the album, with the typical catchy melodic chorus.

“Untouchable” just has an emotionally heavy vibe, complete with blastbeats.

“Not My Type: Dead As Fuck 2” is one of my personal favorites on this album. It’s a very heavy riff orientated industrial sound that’s reminiscent of old Rob Zombie (Hellbilly Deluxe era).

“The Ladder” is the heaviest song on the album; Taking crushingly powerful and in depth riffs with synthesizers to make it that much darker.

“Voices” is a lyrically repetitive song that’s pretty standard Motionless in White.

“Loud(Fuck It)” is one I couldn’t honestly get into right away because it has too much of a “Poppy” sound to it… but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me.

“570” is the true definition of Motionless In White’s Metalcore side. Screams, thrashy guitar riffs, double bass drum beats, keyboards in the background, and then a melodic chorus to end it. For fans of Still Remains (remember them?!), I’d check this song out.

“Hourglass” is again another standard Motionless song. That perfect blend of industrialized metalcore.

“Eternally Yours” is really hooky. It starts out very melodic then speeds full blast into metal. The chorus is the real catchy part. Great closing track for the album.

There’s been a resurgence of sorts with the late 90’s and early 2000’s sound. Motionless in White has been a big part of it. They do have an original blended sound, but their songs individually aren’t very original. But it works. It works, and it’s nice to see a younger band bring back some of that era in their own way.
