I’m putting it out there right now. I haven’t done any album reviews in nearly a year. I meant to do this in February, and I apologize sincerely for the delay.

Nearly 4 years ago Mynas made my eyebrows go up at a live show.

Fast forward to 2019 and they’ve dropped album #2, “Dead to the Unknown”. When I say they just do it right… they just do it right. A meticulously well crafted and produced slab of delicious, beautiful, aggressive Melodic Death Metal with Thrash flavors all over it.

Throwing back a bit to my review of their 1st release, their sound falls directly in line with late 90’s In Flames, 80’s Metallica, Arch Enemy, and At The Gates. I know. Horrible, right? The reality is that Mynas should be touring with those bands. As I anticipated in 2016, this was everything I’d hoped for and even more from them. It’s the most Swedish but American album ever.

This isn’t just one of the best albums I’ve ever heard from a local band – This should be in any metalhead’s list for 2019. Buy it, stream it, whatever you gotta do. Just listen to it.

The music is as good as the guys are personally. Super great dudes. Talented as all fuck. I’m not choosing any songs specifically to discuss, because from #1 to #12 it’s worth listening to. But if you need a song to start with to wet your appetite, then go with the 1st single, “Tearing Down the Clouds”. No explanation necessary. Just get ready to bang your head.

I truly, truly hope there’s a 3rd album. It would be a literal crying shame if this didn’t continue. It’s too god damn good not to.  It’ll be high on my year end 2019 list.

Rating? 4.5/5
